Many years ago in early 50s Before the construction of Sankat Mochan Temple Shimla, Maharajji Neem Karoli Baba initiated the construction of this beautiful remote mountain temple in the hills of Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.

The desire of Maharajji Neem Karoli Baba to establish a beautiful Hanumanji Temple was unpredictable in terms of time and location, that time back in 50s and 60s there were less development in India.

In the fifth decade (1950s), Neeb Karori Baba ji spent about 12-18 days in a hut at Taradevi location, around 6-7 km from Shimla in the hills. The mind bellowing beauty of the place greatly pleased Hanumanji (in Maharajji Neem Karoli Baba’s mind), prompting a wish to reside there in the form of a beautiful Lord Hanuman ji Temple.

Subsequently, in the sixth decade, the then Lt. Governor, the late Raja Bhadri, along with devotee Shri Bhagvan Sahai, acquired land and built a Hanuman temple there.

Hanumanji was not to be alone; idols of Lord Shri Ram, Goddess Sita, Lord Laxman, and Lord Shiva were also installed. Thanks to Babaji’s blessings, this beautiful Hanuman temple in Shimla gained significant renown, hosting frequent celebrations that attract not only devotees but also tourists around the world and India. Particularly on the occasion of Shri Ramnavmi before diwali, the temple’s foundation day, thousands of devotees partake in the bhandara feast, now held every Sunday.

Recognizing that the temple complex seemed incomplete without Babaji Neem Karoli Maharaj’s shrine, the temple trustees, inspired by Shri Siddhi Ma, decided to construct and consecrate a temple dedicated to Babaji Maharaj. The foundation stone of this beautiful Hanumanji’s temple was laid by Shri Veerbhadra Singh, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, on 10 April 1995.

The new holy statue of Shri Neem Karoli Baba ji Maharaj-ji was crafted in Jaipur. The temple is having holy Maharajji’s statue offers a breath-taking panoramic view of the surrounding area. The temple was completed and inaugurated on Ramanavmi, 25 March 1999, amidst grand festivities.

At the entrance to this special temple grounds stands an impressive Lord Shri Ganesh Temple adorned with intricate carvings on its outer walls.

Maharajji’s temple was later renovated by the trust, and a new vigraha of Shri Baba ji Maharajji was installed on the occasion of Shri Ram Navami, 17 April 2005.

The Sankatamocana Hanuman Temple is situated along RTE NH-22. At present, there are no accommodations available in this ashram to stay there for some extra days.
